Concrete was exposed in ambient air for seven day because the ground at the site had already frozen. The slab's bottom was at 0°C after five days. This is a significant improvement on the day before.
Despite some drawbacks to the cold-weather application, the DP admixture produced concrete that had the right amount air and slump despite using the wrong chemical mix. The concrete was also poured into steel forms and set. This made it look a lot like regular concrete.
The greatest drawback to low-temperature mixtures is their high cost. It costs a lot to transport a pound DP far from home. You should also have enough to cover a few jobs. The admixture is now commercially available.
